Holidays observed in the world today are pretty much interesting and is backed up with fascinating stories behind it, although you might find some weird and uncalled for but trust me they are all worth celebrating and worth your time.

Let’s take a look at the world in a celebratory glance…

  1. International Day of Families

Families—both traditional and non-traditional—are the foundation of society. Some of the most influential years of our lives are spent growing up with our families, so they should be celebrated! And today we do just that.

The year 1994 was proclaimed as the International Year of Families by the United Nations. This was a response to changing social and economic structures, which have affected and still affect the structure and stability of family units in many regions of the globe. The International Day of Families, on May 15, is a day set aside to reflect on the work started during 1994 and to celebrate the importance of families, people, societies and cultures around the world.

To join in this celebration all you need do is spend quality time with your family having fun. You could play games, cook together, share gifts amongst yourselves, maybe dive into a little history about yourselves, for the older ones that is, tell stories, discuss some family issues and proffer solutions, and watch movies like Sonic The Hedgehog, The Coco, Frozen, Klaus, Aladdin, Toy story, The Chronicles of Narnia, Dolittle, Lion King, Moana, etc at home together. There’s a whole lot more you can do with your family today, just have fun while at it.

N:B: For your videos you could do the already trending Q&A challenge with your family, or the #bopdaddy challenge with everyone included, better still form a family dance, song. The main idea is to celebrate your family today.

  1. Dinosaur Day

Today we celebrate those large, extinct reptiles: dinosaurs. Scientists believe they first appeared about 245 million years ago, at the beginning of the Middle Triassic Epoch, and existed for about 180 million years, going extinct about 66 million years ago, at the end of the Cretaceous Period. The period when they lived is called the Mesozoic Era.

During this era they experienced many changes, and various species of dinosaurs replaced other species. Some dinosaurs were bipedal, (walked on two legs), and some were quadrupedal, (walked on all four legs). Some swapped back and forth. Some were covered with feathers, while others had what was almost like body armor. Some ran fast, and others were slow; most were herbivores, but some were carnivores. There were at least 700 species of dinosaurs, and possibly more than 1,000.

At the beginning of the age of dinosaurs, the continents were arranged together as a single supercontinent called Pangea and dinosaurs lived on all of this continent. During the years of dinosaur existence this supercontinent slowly broke apart. Its pieces then spread across the globe into a nearly modern arrangement by a process called plate tectonics.

There are many theories as to why dinosaurs died out, including disease, heat waves, cold spells, altering sea levels, a large amount of volcanic action, and the rise of egg-eating mammals, or from X-rays from an exploding supernova. One common theory is that an asteroid crashed on earth, spread ash widely, and shifted the earth's climate.

However, it is not believed that all dinosaurs died out at the same time. Rather, it is believed they had been declining during the last part of the Cretaceous Period. Scientists also believe that some dinosaurs may have evolved into birds.

The best way to celebrate Dinosaur Day amidst the coronavirus pandemic is to watch a documentary about dinosaurs, or a film that features dinosaurs, such as Jurassic Park. You can also do some web research to find more fascinating facts of this extinct reptile. Have fun!

  1. Chocolate Chip Day

In 1937, Ruth Graves Wakefield of the Toll House Inn in Whitman Massachusetts had originally planned on making a chocolate cookie, and decided to do so by throwing in chunks of a semi-sweet Nestle chocolate bar into it. In a happy accident, it turned out that the chocolate did not melt and mix with the rest of the cookie, but maintained its shape, filling the cookie with delicious little chocolate bits and in 1939 Wakefield signed an agreement with Nestle to add her recipe to the chocolate bar’s packaging. In exchange for the recipe, Wakefield received a lifetime supply of chocolate. The Nestle brand Toll House cookies were named for the Inn.

Nestle initially included a small chopping tool with the chocolate bars, too. Starting in 1941, Nestle and other competitors started selling the chocolate in chip or morsel form. For the first time, bakers began making chocolate chip cookies without chopping up the chocolate bar first.

Chocolate Chip Day celebrates these incredible little culinary inventions, and all that they can do.

If you want to partake in the celebration, the first thing to do is remember that Chocolate Chip Day isn’t just about cookies, it’s about all the things you can include chocolate chips in! Pancakes, muffins, pudding, ice cream, granola bars, pies, these are just a few of the wonderful creations you can add them to. Or you could just get a handful out of the bag, be careful though…

N:B: For your video ideas if you’re a foodie and have some recipe ideas on some foods, snacks, drinks, fruits, you can complement chocolate chips with, I suggest you share some to your viewers.

  1. Bike To Work Day

Bike to Work Day was started by the League of American Bicyclists in 1956 to promote the health benefits of cycling to work. Although Bike to Work Day is one day you should definitely try to get on your bike, it actually forms a part of Bike to Work Week and National Bike Month.

Now for some people, the idea of one bicycle commute is bad enough but for those who can’t get enough of 2 wheels, this means that you have the perfect excuse to get on your bike for an entire month!

Why partake in Bike to Work Day?

Here are some few and important reasons why you should join in this activity.

  • Better organization:

Getting out and biking to work requires you to get up earlier than usual, in turn encouraging you to spend some time waking up before you head out the door, and giving you the chance to plan for other things to do with your extra time.

  • Improved health and fitness

Cyclists get an aerobic workout before and after work. It’s also low impact exercise which is easy on the joints, unlike jogging. The extra exercise you’re getting will have a direct positive influence on your diet, tastes, and goals. So if you have a few pounds to lose or simply want to be more conscious of your health, then cycling to work in the morning can be a great motivator.

  • Save money:

If health isn’t your biggest motivation then surely the potential cost savings can convince you to give Bike to Work Day a try? Biking to work will help to cut a chunk out of your transportation costs, saving you money on public transport if you usually take the bus or cab and saving you money on fuel if you usually drive.

  • Saving the planet:

By cycling you reduce carbon emissions resulting in cleaner air. The average car releases 271g of CO2 per kilometer driven, the average bus releases 101g of CO2 per kilometer driven, but a bicycle releases just 16g of CO2 per kilometer driven, all of which comes from the fuel of the rider, i.e your food. So cut your carbon footprint and help save the environment.

  1. Shades Day

Shades Day is the Family Holiday Association’s national fundraising and awareness day when they encourage everyone to wear a pair of shades, whatever the weather! To celebrate get your friends, family and colleagues together and encourage everyone to dig out a pair of shades and make a donation. And don’t forget to share your snaps on social media using the hashtag #ShadesDay.

  1. Bring Flowers To Someone Day

Flowers have always been known to be a popular way of showing appreciation, expressing love, remembering a loved one, or apologizing to someone you treasure dearly.

Bring Flowers to Someone Day is just another excuse to show some love and treasure flowers. Bring Flowers to Someone Day explores the history of giving flowers, what flowers mean, and encourages people to buy a bouquet for any reason, for any one, for any occasion, and not just Valentine’s Day.

To celebrate, research the meaning of your most favorite flowers. Look up what their color represents, what kind of flower they are, and the history of that flower throughout time. If you have someone in mind, send them their very own bouquet to express your appreciation for them.

N:B: you can upload a video of your favorite bouquet of flowers or do a video of responses you get giving a flower to a stranger.
