- May Ray Day
There’s a saying that goes
“April Showers bring May Flowers” that speaks of the natural changing of the
seasons and how the wonderful spring falls. Each year this turning of the page brings
with it the awakening rains of early spring, and then the relaxed warmth and
rich smells of May blossoming into flowers.
According to meteorologists,
the month of May is the last month of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. It is
when the temperatures start rising and the anticipation of summer is obvious
all around us - in nature with summer flowers and plants getting ready to
bloom, in stores with summer clothing and agricultural produce, and in our
schools where students are getting ready for the upcoming summer vacations.
Making it the best time of the year to get some sunshine and enjoy the Sun
before it gets too hot.
In the Southern Hemisphere,
May is the last month of the autumn.
If you live below the
Equator, then celebrate May Ray Day by spending some time under the Sun before
the temperatures fall. Studies have proven that time in the Sun can be good for
one's physical and mental health. So, put on a hat and your sunglasses and
enjoy some May Sun.
You should be careful though,
too much time in the Sun can be damaging to your skin. So ensure you take
sunscreen with you.
- National Devil’s Food
Cake Day
Devil’s food cake is not
your ordinary chocolate cake. It’s a unique mix of ingredients that brings out “The
Chocolate”; with devil’s food cake, you get all the taste, and all the
chocolate. Rich in flavor and moist in texture, devil’s food cake is a favorite
for chocolate-lovers.
I know what you’re thinking, Why the name ‘Devil’s Food Cake’? Now, According
to Baking Illustrated, the Devil's
Food Cake was the result of a time when fancy names for cakes was the norm; in
the late 1900s. Apparently, it was the only cake name to survive that era and
make it to the now. Devil’s Food Cake was called as such because of the deep rich
color of the cake. It is a dark, dense cake that was originally mild, but
people made it more “sinful” by adding more chocolate. It usually has a reddish
color caused by a chemical reaction between the cocoa powder and baking soda
used in its recipes. Some say the cake gets its name to distinctly contrast
from the Angel’s food cake, which is much lighter in comparison.
Now to partake in the relish of this all-time favorite rich cake, I shared a recipe right here for you Pro Recipe for Devil's Food Cake
